The April 30th edition of the Wine Spectator included in their wine reviews a section listing wines under the category of ‘California Merlot and Blends.’ The 2019 Left Bank Red from Neyers Vineyards was near the top of the list and was awarded a score of 92 POINTS. Here are their comments:

“A strapping red, with loamy notes to the dark fruit and ripe berry flavors, which offer accents of dried beef. This has a vibrant minerality that lingers into the finish, with green herbal shadings and coffee bean hints. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2027. 2,161 cases made.” 92 Points —Kim Marcus

As pleased as we were to see the wine’s high score, we noticed that only five wines were awarded a score of 92 points or higher. Of them, the Neyers Vineyards Left Bank Red was the only wine priced under $50. The other four wines sell from $69 to $105. After reading the review, a customer wrote us a note of congratulations recognizing our ability to combine high quality with fair pricing. That’s even more gratifying.

The Left Bank Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot, most of which comes from the sustainably-farmed vineyard on our Conn Valley Ranch. These vines are now 25-30 years old and at their peak. The wine combines the flavors of dark chocolate and ripe cherry that mark classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, along with the hints of dark plum and nutmeg that are so engaging in Merlot.
