Neyers Left Bank Red in the Wine Spectator

The 2022 Left Bank Red – It’s Déjà Vu all over again
The first vintage we released of our Left Bank Red was the 2014, and the late Jim Laube gave it a score of 92 POINTS. He sure liked it, but more importantly perhaps he rated it as the highest scoring wine in his TOP VALUES category for the vintage. His observation was:
“Puts zesty raspberry and wild berry at the fore for immediate appeal.”
Jim didn’t have much to say, but it was a long piece, and there wasn’t a lot of space.
That was back in 2016, but we’re delighted to report that consistency is a large part of the strength of this wine. In the ‘Wine Spectator’ August 26 online issue, Tim Fish just had this to say about the 2022 Left Bank Red:
“A sleekly structured red, with expressive flavors of cherry and red currant that take on accents of tomato leaf and savory spices as this builds tension toward refined tannins. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2035.”

Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt has developed a nice touch for the wine he makes from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the deep gravel parcels of our Conn Valley Ranch. After several years of travel to many important properties of the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Tadeo is increasingly comfortable working with vineyards planted on gravelly soils containing high percentages of Merlot, paired with Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine from Neyers is 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 80% Merlot. It will delight you.
This view is looking southwest across our vineyards towards Conn Creek, which is just beyond the tree line above the two houses. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards that grow the grapes for our Left Bank Red are those between the houses and the creek.
