We were delighted earlier this week to read the recent Wine Spectator piece listing their ‘Top Ten Suggestions’ for dinner on Valentine’s Day. Included in the mix was our 2019 Left Bank Red which was given a score of 92 POINTS. Here’s the review:

From the Wine Spectator February 7

Neyers Vineyards Left Bank Red Napa Valley 2019

“A strapping red, with loamy notes to the dark fruit and ripe berry flavors, which offer accents of dried beef. This has vibrant minerality that lingers into the finish, with green herbal shadings and coffee bean hints. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2027. 2161 cases made. From California.”
92 Points – Kim Marcus

Winemaker Tadeo Borchardt developed this wine with an eye towards our fondness for the wines produced from grapes grown on the gravelly soil of St. Julien, alongside the Gironde River in Bordeaux’s Médoc. We use the fruit from our two vineyards planted on the Left Bank of Conn Creek as it flows through the southern part of our property. It’s a portion of our Conn Valley ranch with an especially deep bed of gravel that’s been washed down over the centuries from Howell Mountain. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The aromas bring to mind tobacco leaf and ripe plum, while the flavors combine wild cherry and fresh sage.

The view east through the Merlot Vineyard we call Pump Block. The elevation here is 400 feet, and the gravel deposit beneath the topsoil is almost 50 feet deep. The vines are now 32 years-old.
