"...The finest 2005 is the AME (which means "soul" in French) a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee fashioned from a parcel of the estate vineyard in Napa's Conn Valley. Perhaps because of that, it possesses more minerality along with licorice, black currant, and cedar wood notes. Dense, full-bodied, rich, and impressively endowed, with good acidity, tannin, and extract, this 600-case offering will be at its best between 2009-2018." (91-93)

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon AME
The word Áme is French for "soul". It's something any winemaker or grape grower wants in their final wine. While developing the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards on our Conn Valley ranch, it became apparent that one parcel in particular stood out above the rest - literally as well as figuratively - given it was the highest elevation and rockiest parcel on the property. It took four years to develop, due to the rock removal and the steepness of the slopes. The results were worth the effort. We found that out in 2005 when the Cabernet Sauvignon crop from this block proved to be not only darker and more intense but dramatically different in aroma and flavor. We bottled it separately and called it Áme, for some our soul is certainly in it. It's important to us as well that there's some recognition of our three children, Alexandra, Michael and Elizabeth, whose first name initials make up the word.
