"fermented with 50% whole clusters. Good deep red. Savory aromas of red fruits, bacon fat and game. Fat and dense but not a fruity style; dominant saline and peppery notes give this wine a rather low-toned character. Finishes with substantial, slightly drying tannins" 91 Points

"dense ruby/purple color and plenty of blackberry, camphor, and licorice aromatics intermixed with subtle hints of road tar and floral notes. It is a pretty, supple-textured Syrah that should drink nicely for 5-6 years." 90 Points

2006 Syrah Hudson Vineyard
It's no accident that grapes grown on Lee Hudson's Carneros District vineyard command among the highest prices of any grapes grown in Napa Valley. It's well suited for cold climate grapes, and Lee and his staff are among the most respected growers in the industry. Our Hudson Vineyard Syrah has become a benchmark over the past decade, and is widely considered to be one of the most successful examples of the variety. There's no magic formula here: it's a combination of a proper site, dutiful farming and inspired winemaking. Our 2006 Hudson Vineyard Syrah is old-world in style -- earthy with traces of black pepper and leather. It's rich without being overwhelming, flavorful without being extreme.
