2006 Zinfandel Pato Vineyards
The fruit from these 110 year-old vines was harvested on September 26 and September 27 in 2006, a full month later than this vineyard's average harvest date over the past ten years! This extra 30 days of "hang-time" allowed the grapes to ripen fully and give us a balanced wine with both complexity and intensity. The additional maturity also seems to have heightened the "crushed strawberry" aroma that is such an attractive component to fans of this wine. The color is dark and there are hints of cocoa and clove. The soft, rich flavor is just way too charming. There's a small percentage of "field blended" Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah here, each contributing additional elements.
