2007 Zinfandel High Valley Vineyards - SOLD OUT
Chiles Valley takes its name from an early Napa settler, Joseph B. Chiles, who arrived here in the 1840's from Missouri with a group of pioneers. It was originally called the "High Valley", probably because of its elevation above the Napa River flood plain. Chiles was well known for the whiskey he distilled next to his successful grain mill, but today we associate Chiles Valley with some of Napa's most impressive Zinfandels. The most respected of these by far is from Jay and Pam Heminway's Green and Red Winery, which is about three miles east of the Silverado Trail, at Rutherford. With vineyards looming to 1700 feet, this is Zinfandel country. Growing conditions here are perfect for this finicky grape variety, and we were delighted with the opportunity to purchase some fruit from them. This may well be the darkest colored Zinfandel we've ever produced at Neyers. It's certainly one of the most intense, with a huge nose of ripe berries and exotic spices, a rich, velvet-like texture, and lingering flavors of concentrated fruit. The finish is elegant, however, and not the least bit rustic. Even at this early stage the wine appears seamless.
